Judges will have little patience with those who have been previously convicted so it is recommended that you contact an attorney immediately. Michael J. Illinois law requires sex offenders to register with the state and to maintain their registration. Failing to register will be charged as a Class 3 Felony as will providing false information at the time of your registration. Such felonies carry a minimum sentence of two to five years. Subsequent convictions for failing to register will be punished as a Class 2 felony which carries a sentence of three to seven years. Furthermore, anyone convicted of failing to register will pay a fine of $500 on top of any standard financial penalties and will be required to serve at least seven days in jail.
